Day 22- Orem, Utah (near SLC)

Left Boise with coffee, donuts and pointed south to Utah. Saw skinny dust tornados along drive to Orem/Provo outside SLC.

Opted to pull over at the Shoshone Falls exit in Twin Falls, ID just because we loved Shoshone National Forest so much- called it Yellowstone minus people. Spent about an hour in a beautiful  park overlooking a spectacular rock dam and falls. Monica confirmed her love for Idaho, the “City of Trees” and its varying landscapes, lack of people and billboards, and pretty parks with open, clean, working bathrooms. It’s winters are warmer than Indy’s!

We saw an airplane car driving down the interstate in SLC. A small plane mounted atop a car. Yep! Couldn’t get a pic though.

Jason spotted a bunch of giant flying ants in the sky except they were paragliders- prolly 50 or so- sailing around a mountain. It looked like an alien invasion. J looked terrified. M wants to sign up with their most experienced, sober, smokin hot  tandem glider guide.

Checked into a la Quinta in Orem, just south of SLC. The hot tub we’d come for was “broken, waiting for parts”. Turns out lots around here is broken and waiting for parts. Coffee shops all closed at 9am Saturday, Krispy Kreme coffee maker is “broken” and Hot Donut sign us off, Mexican place we ate dinner at didn’t serve alcohol, all doors at hotels broken except lobby, etc. The hotel washer/ dryer was also broken so we went to a laundromat before our margarita- less dinner. Highlight- Monica got a “Baby Shart” sticker out of a poop themed coin operated sticker machine for only 50 cents (x3).

All small things that add up to get the fuck out of this place, which we did.

Headed south to disperse camp somewhere between SLC and Zion National Park. Had truly killer burgers at historic Rodgers Diner with its constitional signs and homemade pies.

We found a gorgeous very remote disperse campsite in the Manti-La Sal National Forest, about 5 hrs north of Zion. Its Saturday so we’re hanging out here until the weekend crowd is gone. The day weather was perfect but we’re under many blankets tonight since it’ll drop to the 30’s!
Jason cooked delicious bacon, egg, cheese curd burritos. We found fudge for dessert which goes great with Hot Honey. Watched the sunset and cuddled up in bed at 7:45pm.

  1. Green/brown grasses, red rocks, yellow creosote bushes (?) and blue green sage; golden sky and golden trees; blue sky, blue jacket and blue heeler...all rich and lovely pics sharing your trip.
How about a family & friends reunion at Rodger's? And tell Jefferson that I want my Social Security.
